Focus on Life Week 34: Add Something

All football fans out there know we are counting down the days until our season openers. My hubby and I often kid that our black and white kitties should really be black and gold to pick up the colors of our Pittsburgh Steelers. So for this week's theme, I went to town on this challenge!

Below is the before photo of kitties Poochie and Harold. They are sitting in one of their favorite spots -- on seats from Three Rivers Stadium which we bought when they tore down the stadium to make room for Heinz Field, the Steelers' new fancy digs.

Now here they are "re-painted" in Steeler colors with a Terrible Towel:

And to wrap up our Steeler theme, below is a necklace I made for a friend who is another Steeler fan.

Focus On Life Week 33: In Season

This week I traveled to Des Moines, Iowa for work and had the good fortune to unintentionally time my visit with the Iowa State Fair. All you Iowans out there might be used to all the fanfare but I have never attended anything quite like it. It was a blast!
Walking in, you are greeted by the sight of the Midway games and rides.

But things get much more interesting when you head over to the animal buildings. Even the structures are cool -- not temporary buildings by any means but durable brick like the one shown here.

This nice man allowed me to photograph him while he gussied up his sheep for showing.

But my all-time favorites were the goats, making me think of Patty and her new goat baby Bernadette.

And, yes, I also enjoyed the "fair food" but somehow managed to avoid the deep fried Oreos.

And, if you thought this was fun, here are some more tales of "in season":

Focus on Life Week 32: From Where I Stand

I spend a lot of time in the office. Most of it is spent sitting, but on this particular occasion, I am standing in one of my favorite spots looking out the window at a bird feeder we just purchased.

We decided a bird feeder was in order because our kitties were getting a bit complacent. Too much snoozing and sunning. In this part of Arizona, you don't dare allow your kitties to go outside, else they would soon become victims to an owl or coyote. But we needed to help bring them back to their cat-ness.

We realized their favorite window looked right at a great tree just inches from the window - the perfect spot for a bird feeder! We've met many varieties of feathered friends over the past several weeks but our all-time favorites are the gambol quail. I am not a bird person by nature but you can't help but fall in love with these oddly shaped birds with their jaunty plumes, who always travel with their families. I think the babies in the photo below must just be a couple weeks old. I loved this little fellow circled in the foreground, nestled up against mama flapping his wings.

We enjoy these guys so much we even added this yard art outside our front door.

I think it's a toss-up on who enjoys the bird feeder more -- us or the kitties. And for now, we'll say good-bye to this little gambol family as they head off on another excursion.

Focus on Life Week 31: Hues of Blue

This will be a freaky little post. Why? I am taking Photoshop classes and thought it would be fun to combine Sally's challenge with something I learned in class.

So here is my before photo. A lovely yellow unadulterated cactus flower.

Then I start to get creative and add a yellow and blue flower!

And here's a psychedelic blue cactus flower.
This can't hold a candle to Mother Nature's version!
