Focus on Life Week 26: ? (Gone Fishing)

For this week's post, Sally gave us free rein to select our own topic. I was going to take the week off with a sign that said "gone fishin'". Then I remembered this picture from my sister's vacation a couple years ago. She swears this is a real photo from a fishing tour her husband and sons took, returning with this prize. She told me the type of fish but for the life of me I can't remember. Believe me, I am not sufficiently adept at Photoshop to have doctored this other than to add the frame. You would think after making a catch like this the boys would look happier!

Focus on Life Week 25: I Am.......Amazed

I was amazed last week when arriving home from work I happened to glance out our back window into the pool area. These two ducks had stopped to visit almost every evening about the same time -- around 6:30, usually by the rocky water feature. But this night, they changed their position as you see below and were closer to the house.

I opened the back door to see if I could get a better picture and they jumped right into the pool.

I noticed a small object almost right at the edge of the pool and went closer to investigate. Oh my! - they had deposited an egg. I guess our place was their courting spot.

I checked online to see if there were any postings about what I should do with the egg, especially since it was in such an unprotected area. And I was doubly amazed at the huge number of people who have also been visited by nesting ducks.
Sadly, the egg did not survive. But I am hoping they make a return visit next mating season.

Focus on Life Week 24: Green

Green might not be the first word that comes to mind when you think of the desert. But the Sonoran desert is one exception with a more subtle green, unlike the vibrant greens you see in the Eastern US. I captured this view just as a summer monsoon storm was brewing. The dark brown in the sky really brings out the green of the cacti and other vegetation.

Green is not one of my usual go-to colors for beading projects. I tend more toward blues and basic black. But green is my friend Tootie's favorite so for her birthday awhile back, I dressed up this cabochon whose green picks up the same earthy tones of the desert picture.
Stop on over to Sally's page to see how others are going green this week.

Focus On Life Week 23: Typography

I'm guessing I might have some company with the subject for this week's post. Typography on wedding invitations always makes me feel happy. Except when I made a pretty large goof on ours! I was so excited about our invitations. They were unique (at the time) in the way they folded up like so:

We had a December wedding and took full advantage of the pre-holiday motif. I went directly from the printer to see my hubby-to-be who took one look and informed me that I had misspelled his middle name! Arggghhhh. Of course I assumed that the spelling would be the same as Eliot of "TS" poetic fame. Sadly, I was wrong and yes, we had them re-printed which is why I have so many extras to use for this post!
